Manchester United's squad against Arsenal in the opening game of the 2025/26 season should look very different to how it does right now.

of Matheus Cunha, are keen to sign another attacking midfielder, a forward, a goalkeeper, and possibly a new midfielder, too.

They are also keen to sell players as well to streamline their squad, with the permanent departures of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and Tyrell Malacia a priority this summer.

With all that in mind, we have taken a look at what dream squad might look like ahead of the opening game of the Premier League campaign.

United have tied down Tom Heaton to a new contract so he will remain the club's third choice goalkeeper.

The decision facing United now is how they freshen up their current top two options. Andre Onana has failed to consistently convince as number one, while Altay Bayindir has shown he is not good enough to be a number two.

Onana is keen to stay at United but links to other goalkeepers continue to persist. Emi Martinez has been linked with a move. So, too, has Porto's Portugal international goalkeeper Diogo Costa.

He has a £64million release clause and, aged 25, still has his best years ahead of him. In a dream scenario, Costa joins, Onana provides competition and Bayindir is sold on. How realistic of a prospect that is remains to be seen.

Defenders

Despite a poor season last term, United's defensive options were arguably one of their few positives to emerge from the campaign.

Harry Maguire has penned a new deal at the club, while last summer's arrivals of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt should be even stronger in their second season at Old Trafford.

Lisandro Martinez will return from injury, while Amorim seemed to prefer using Luke Shaw as one of his centre-halves as opposed to playing full-back. Noussair Mazraoui can also be used as a centre-half.

Youngsters Ayden Heaven and Tyler Fredricson impressed when given an opportunity last season and should continue their development this term.

Wing-backs

United's pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo suggests that Amorim has decided that Amad, one of last season's best performers, will thrive in a wing-back role.

Patrick Dorgu, who joined the club in January, also made a positive impression in his first few months at the club. Diogo Dalot remains a reliable option, while teenager Harry Amass looked comfortable making the step up to first team level.

Mazraoui and Shaw, natural full-backs by trade, also remain options to use as wing-backs.

Midfielders

Bruno Fernandes looks set to step back into a deeper midfield role this season, while Manuel Ugarte should be stronger in his second season at the club.

Kobbie Mainoo has a point to prove this season and will hope to be used in his preferred central midfield role. A decision must be made on Casemiro, too.

Amorim is a big fan of the 33-year-old and he is said to be keen to remain at United as he feels that is best chance of securing a place in the Brazil World Cup squad next summer.

But he is out of contract at the end of next season and it remains to be seen how United would react if an offer was to come in for him.

Should he leave, then a new midfielder should arrive at the club but given the lack of a definitive transfer link for one at the moment, it may be that United are prioritising other positions in the market.

Youngster Toby Collyer will hope for more game-time next term, too, but may have to venture out on loan for more game-time.

Attacking midfielders

This is where United fans will be most excited next season. Cunha, who scored 17 goals last term for Wolves, has already been secure while there is positive noises being made about their pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo.

The Cameroon international bagged 20 Premier League goals last season and is keen to make the move to United.

If Mason Mount can maintain his fitness, he should prove to be a vital back-up to Cunha and Mbeumo, too, and Amorim is known to be a huge fan of the England international.

If needed, Fernandes and Amad can fill into this role, too.

Forwards

It is no big secret that United are desperate to recruit a new forward this summer.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managed just seven league goals between them last term and that simply has to improve if United want to get back to where they feel they belong.

After their pursuit of Liam Delap failed, United are said to be interested in Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyokeres, Napoli hitman Victor Osimhen and Eintracht Frankfurt star Hugo Ekitike.

Of all of those options, Gyokeres would be the most favourable for United to recruit. His phenomenal goalscoring record at Sporting largely came under Amorim's management and he knows exactly how to thrive under the United boss.

Should he arrive at Old Trafford, it is almost certain that one of Hojlund or Zirkzee would leave the club. Both players are attracting interest from Serie A.

Teenage star Chido Obi will look to build on his first team exposure last season again next term, as he looks to transfer his phenomenal goalscoring record at youth level to the senior game.

Forward options: Viktor Gyokeres, Rasmus Hojlund/Joshua Zirkzee, Chido Obi
