Chelsea intensify talks with "superb" forward given seal of approval by Alan Shearer - Brighton & Hove Albion

(REUTERS/Lee Smith)After a strong 2024/25 season that saw them finish fourth and qualify for next season’s Champions League—while also lifting the Europa League trophy—Chelsea are wasting no time in further strengthening their squad during the transfer window. The Blues have already completed three signings: Dário Essugo from Sporting Lisbon, Mamadou Sarr from sister club RC Strasbourg, and, most notably, Liam Delap from Ipswich Town. Delap arrived in a £30 million deal following Ipswich’s relegation and has made an immediate impression, particularly with his first-ever goal for the club against ES Tunis at the Club World Cup. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens is also widely expected to join the squad, having completed a medical ahead of a £55 million switch from Borussia Dortmund. The 20-year-old English winger is considered one of world football’s most exciting young wide men and fits the profile Chelsea are targeting: a right-footed left winger. He is expected to fill the void left by Jadon Sancho, whose loan from Manchester United was not made permanent, and Mykhailo Mudryk, who faces a four-year ban from football after failing a drug test.

Despite already making significant investments, Chelsea appear far from finished.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Blues are now advancing talks for Brighton & Hove Albion striker João Pedro.

“Understand Chelsea have now intensified talks to advance on João Pedro deal,” Romano wrote on X. “Chelsea are focused on João deal with Brighton after signing Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.”

Romano added that the Blues are now “pushing” for the 23-year-old Brazil international, having been “interested since start of June.”

Pedro scored 10 goals and registered six assists in 27 Premier League appearances last season, earning praise for his performances from the league’s record goalscorer, Alan Shearer.

After scoring one and assisting another in a 2–1 win over Bournemouth, Shearer said: “His hold-up play was superb at times when he had to keep hold of the ball and bring his team-mates into play.”

Pedro, however, has not been without controversy, most notably drawing criticism for swinging an elbow at Brentford’s Yehor Yarmolyuk.

With more deals potentially on the horizon, Chelsea’s summer rebuild looks far from over.
