It isn’t a new occurrence that a Sporting player is a fan of Ruben Amorim, since he powered the reawakening of the giant in Portugal.
He kickstarted various careers at Sporting, as the list of Amorim debutants at Sporting is a long and illustrious one.
One player has now professed his love for the Man Utd manager, revealing a piece of advice from him that changed his game.

Ruben Amorim advice revealed by Pedro Goncalves
It seems that every day, a new member of the Sporting squad gives Ruben Amorim his flowers.
Geny Catamo recently said he cried when Amorim told them he was leaving for Man Utd, and Viktor Gyokeres has been open in his admiration too.
Add United-linked Pedro Goncalves to the list of players in awe of the manager.
Goncalves has been linked to United before, especially when Bruno Fernandes’s future at the club was uncertain.

He has been influential for Sporting throughout his time there, enjoying his game under Ruben Amorim, which prompted the club to look at him as the ideal Fernandes replacement.
Speaking on the programme Alta Definicao (via Noticias O Minuto), Goncalves said he loves Amorim, revealing a piece of advice that changed him.
He said: “I like people telling me that I’m wrong, and how I should improve. I used to tell Mr. Ruben Amorim to help me if I got lost in arguments, for example. I used to joke around with him, and that’s why we get on so well. We’re very similar. I love him as a person. I remember a piece of advice he gave me from the beginning: don’t let time pass you by. Make the most of every moment.”

Nobody can compare the standard of competition between the Premier League and the Portuguese League, but Amorim’s Sporting legacy gives hope for Man Utd.

Those are the kind of traits that are transferrable across leagues, and the seeds of it are already sown at United in a turbulent season.
He clearly has the players completely on his side, and his treatment of the players who are not “all-in” will ensure that the dressing room is never corrupted.
