Manchester United are reportedly open to letting Andre Onana leave the club on loan this season. The goalkeeper has put his position in Ruben Amorim's strongest XI into doubt since arriving from Inter Milan.

Onana was signed for over £47million in 2023 under Erik ten Hag to replace David de Gea. The Cameroonian international has endured a mixed first two years at United with some high-profile errors hindering his reputation.

Last season, Amorim dropped Onana from the starting 11 after he was at fault for both goals in the Europa League quarter-final draw against Lyon. He returned after sitting out of the Newcastle game but was slammed for failing to save Brennan Johnson's winner in the Europa League final.

During the close season, Onana has been linked with a move away and subsequently, United being tipped with a number of goalkeepers. The Manchester Evening News understands that the 29-year-old remains intent on staying at the club and would only consider departing if United want to sell him.

Now, The Sun are reporting that United are now open to sanctioning a loan move for Onana due to his high wages making a permanent exit tricky to construct. The report adds that United are now awaiting approaches for the goalkeeper and would prefer to send Onana to Europe.

AS Monaco have been linked with a move while the likes of OGC Nice, Lille, AC Milan and Atalanta could all be in the market for new goalkeepers depending on the futures of their current number ones.

If Onana is out of the picture, the Reds' priority in the transfer market will somewhat focus on bringing in a new number one. In the past month, the likes of Emiliano Martinez, Marcin Bulka, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Andriy Lunin, Diogo Costa and Marco Carnesecchi have all been linked.
