Newcastle United face a transfer battle to land reported target Evan Ndicka after AS Roma reportedly made the centre-back available for just €35m.

The Magpies have cast their next extensively when it comes to their summer transfer targets, with a centre-back near the top of Eddie Howe's wishlist.

United have monitored Ivory Coast stopper Ndicka for some time, with interest while he was at Eintracht Frankfurt. He helped win the Europa League while in Germany, but moved to Italy with Roma in 2023 after his contract expired.

Now the Italian side could be set to offload some key players this summer just to FFP, with Ndicka potentially one of those deemed expendable.

He can play on either side of a central defensive combination, and at 25, has the best years of his career ahead of him.

He played in every minute of each of of Roma's 38 Serie A fixtures list term, as they finished fifth in the table to qualify for the Europa League.

However, he could now be available for just €35m (around £30m) as Roma look to sell off key players to help meet financial issues.

That will have alerted Newcastle, while Manchester United and Arsenal are also said to have an interest in the defender, who played at every junior level for France before commiting his international career to the Ivory Coast.

Newcastle are said to be in the market for a long-term central defensive partner for Sven Botman, although Dan Burn and Fabian Schar and expected to continue to play important roles in the coming campaign.

United look to have lost out to Liverpool in the race to sign Marc Guehi, with talks over a move to Anfield expected to continue next week.

Lengthy negotiations with Crystal Palace failed to seal a move last summer for the England international defender, with Liverpool now ending United's hopes of landing Guehi.

Ndicka began his career in France with Auxerre before a €5.5m move to Germany with Frankfurt, where he made 183 appearances in five Bundesliga seasons.

He has plenty European experience, having played in the Champions League and Europa League in recent seasons.
