Manchester United are facing a transfer disappointment as Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyokeres edges closer to an Arsenal move this summer. United have focused mainly on the attacking department at the early stages of the transfer window under manager Ruben Amorim.
The Red Devils have already signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are close to signing Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo. However, United’s problem in attack would persist if they do not sign a main striker up front during this transfer window.
Both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to establish themselves as main forwards under Amorim within the new tactics. While Hojlund and Zirkzee offer vastly different strengths with their respective style of play, they both struggled with inconsistent performances.\

Sporting CP star Viktor Gyokeres has picked Arsenal over a chance to reunite with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
Amorim enjoyed a lot of success at Sporting Lisbon, and his collaboration with Gyokeres played a vital role in that. The 27-year-old forward has contributed 125 goals and assists from 102 appearances for Sporting CP, highlighting his lethality in attack.
According to the Portuguese outlet O Jogo, United are close to removing Gyokeres from their shortlist of potential targets as Arsenal and Sporting CP edge closer to agreeing on a deal. The Gunners have offered €70m for the Sweden International, but Sporting CP wants €80m (£68.3m) for their primary asset.
The Champions League football has played a big role in Gyokeres’ decision to choose Arsenal over United this summer. The 27-year-old’s quick decision should motivate the Red Devils to turn towards other targets on their shortlist.
There are players of high quality who would prefer United over any other club, like Mbeumo and Cunha. Amorim has a lot of positions to cover this summer, as the Red Devils intend to target quality over quantity.
