It's a good time to be a Washington Commanders fan.
The team shocked the NFL world by going 12-5 and making the NFC Championship game a season ago. General manager Adam Peters was aggressive this offseason in capitalizing on the Commanders' success by bringing in some significant names.
Washington boasts a talented roster, with standout performers at many key positions. With that in mind, let's rank the top 10 players on the Commanders entering the 2025 season.
Ranking the 10 best players on the Commanders in 2025
10. Tress Way, P
There was a time not so long ago when Tress Way might have been No. 1 on this list. The fact that he only barely cracks it now can be considered a reflection of the growth of Washington's franchise.
If the longtime fan-favorite punter's play has declined at all, it's for the best possible reason: he hasn't been on the field as often.
9. Sam Cosmi, OL
Sam Cosmi could be as high as the top five based on his past production, but he comes with some uncertainty due to the torn ACL he suffered in Washington's playoff win over the Detroit Lions. The Texas product will return at some point in 2025. When the interior offensive lineman does, he'll have more to prove than ever.
8. Deebo Samuel Sr., WR
One of those aforementioned new additions in Washington this season is Deebo Samuel Sr., the versatile wide receiver who earned All-Pro honors in 2021. Last year was a disappointment for the former San Francisco 49ers star, but as the No. 2 option in Kliff Kingsbury's offense, hopes are high that he will return to form.
7. Marshon Lattimore, CB
Perhaps no player on the Commanders will have a bigger chip on their shoulder this season than Marshon Lattimore, the four-time Pro Bowler who Washington made a splash for at last year's trade deadline. He was limited by a hamstring injury to only five appearances for his new team in 2024, but with a full offseason to get healthy while fully acclimating himself to Joe Whitt Jr.'s defense, he will look to bounce back in a big way.
6. Zach Ertz, TE
The three-time Pro Bowl tight end's production may not be what it once was. However, Zach Ertz is as valuable to Washington's offense as any player not named Jayden Daniels or Terry McLaurin.
His dependability as a short pass catcher makes him a key cog in Kingsbury's scheme. Ertz's veteran leadership off the field makes everyone around him better.
Though he spent most of his career with the rival Philadelphia Eagles, he should hang up his cleats as a Commander.
5. Bobby Wagner, LB
Bobby Wagner can be considered the Ertz of the defense, only better. His arrival immediately helped change the culture in Washington and made the entire linebacking unit one of the Commanders' biggest strengths last season.
He is still competing at an All-Pro level. Even as Wagner enters Year 14, the future Pro Football Hall of Famer should be a quality contributor.
4. Frankie Luvu, LB
Wagner may have the more decorated resume, but there's an argument that he might not even be the Commanders' best linebacker right now.
Frankie Luvu broke out in a major way after he was signed on a bargain deal from the Carolina Panthers, earning second-team All-Pro honors and solidifying himself as the heart and soul of Washington's defense. He's a feared competitor who opponents love to hate, but his energy and hard-hitting style of play made him a fan favorite in D.C.
3. Laremy Tunsil, OT
Of the two major pieces Peters traded for this offseason, it's Laremy Tunsil who will be expected to play the more significant role as he looks to anchor Washington's offensive line. The five-time Pro Bowler will have the opportunity to take his game to new heights while also making life easier for Jayden Daniels and the rest of the Commanders' offense.
Look for him to earn consideration for his first All-Pro nod this season if the experienced left tackle reaches expectations.
2. Terry McLaurin, WR
Though his name has been in the headlines for a less-than-ideal reason lately, it's also precisely because of how good Terry McLaurin is that every Commanders fan is hoping his contract holdout can be resolved quickly.
Last season, McLaurin made the jump into the elite conversation after he was finally rewarded with a quarterback who could maximize him. As long as Peters ponies up for his contract extension, he should only sustain that production moving forward.
Pay the man already.
1. Jayden Daniels, QB
Who else could it be?
Jayden Daniels has only been in the NFL for one season, and the dynamic quarterback already has more accolades than all but a small handful of fellow Commanders.
His selection with the No. 2 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft was a franchise-changing development. Washington went from a place where hope was non-existent to an ideal destination franchise for free agents and trade candidates.
The reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year should only get better as he builds off of his historic freshman campaign. Daniels should be competing for NFL MVP awards and, more importantly, Super Bowls for years to come.
