Fabrizio Romano has provided a promising update over Arsenal’s pursuit of a new centre-back.
Arsenal have reached a full agreement with Valencia defender Christian Mosquera over a move to the Emirates Stadium, in what would be a major coup for sporting director Andrea Berta and the club.
The 21-year-old centre-back is highly rated across the continent and not short of suitors this summer. The Mirror recently named Aston Villa and AFC Bournemouth as Premier League clubs also monitoring a move.
The outlet also named Bayer Leverkusen and Berta’s former club Atletico Madrid as interested but it appears that the Gunners’ sporting director has employed his trademark negotiation skills to push Arsenal to the front of the queue.
Arsenal reach personal terms with centre-back
That’s according to a fresh update shared by transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Sunday. Taking to social media platform X on Sunday, Romano wrote: “Arsenal have reached full agreement on personal terms with Christian Mosquera. New proposal set to be submitted after opening bid worth €14m got rejected by Valencia. Arsenal hope to get the deal done for fee in excess of €20m, talks underway.”
Valencia skipper Jose Luis Gaya recently had his say on Crithian Mosquera joining Arsenal amid a reported failed Gunners bid for the defender. He told A Punt: “I would be delighted if all three could stay because I think they can give a lot this new season and bring a lot of joy to the fans.
“As of today, unless there’s any breaking news, I think all three of them are still with us, and I hope it continues like this, and they continue to grow as players.”
Mosquera interested in Premier League move amid contract update
Mosquera is in the final year of his contract at Valencia, which is set to push the club to sell, despite their tough stance in negotiations. Only recently, Mosquera’s agent Sergio Barila said: “We have come to talk to the club and in a few days we will talk again. We are going to wait these days, and we will analyse the situation on both sides. The boy is very happy at Valencia, he has always transmitted it.”
Just weeks later, Las Provincias say Mosquera is tired of waiting for Valencia to make an offer, and he is now said to be very interested in moving to the Premier League amid interest from Arsenal.
