‘Significant gap’between Liverpool and Napoli in Nunez talks

There remains a significant gap between Liverpool and Napoli during discussions over a deal for Darwin Nunez.

Nunez is Napoli’s top target for the summer transfer window with the Italian champions working on a deal for the forward.

Liverpool are open to offers for Nunez, who struggled for regular first-team football under Arne Slot last season.

The Uruguay international started just eight times in the Premier League last season and has failed to find consistency since arriving at Anfield from Benfica in 2022. Despite a mixed time in English football, Liverpool value Nunez at around €70m (£59m).

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that a ‘significant gap’ remains between the two parties when discussing a fee. Nunez has given his approval to the transfer but negotiations between the teams require a resolution for talks to proceed.

In addition to chasing Nunez, Napoli are also working on a deal to sign Lorenzo Lucca from Udinese, with talks advanced. The 6ft 7in forward scored 12 goals in Serie A last season and is set to arrive to strengthen the squad ahead of their Champions League return.
