Manchester United could face a “big problem” after an Antony transfer update has emerged.

The 25-year-old spent the second half of the 2024-25 campaign on loan with Real Betis in La Liga.

The Brazil international registered nine goals and five assists in 26 appearances for the Seville-based side after coming to the end of the road at Man United.

Fabrizio Romano reported on 20 June Italian club Como have tried to sign Antony, but he is giving his priority to Betis as they look to secure a permanent deal for his services.

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Betis are not going to be able to pay anywhere near what United need to break even on the winger.

Antony joined the Premier League side in an £86million deal back in 2022.

Man United face transfer blow after Antony update

Borson insisted there is likely to be little interest in Antony this summer.

He told Football Insider: “It’s a big problem for them if it’s true he only wants to join Betis.

“I suspect it’s not true. I suspect the reality is that there’s just not that much interest.

“The problem that Manchester United have got with the interest only being from them is that they simply are not going to have the money to pay anywhere near what United need even to break even on the deal.

“They might be able to pay his wages. Apparently, he’s on reasonable wages, although I find that slightly hard to believe as well.

“But let’s assume that’s true and he’s on okay wages that they can just about handle.

“It still doesn’t deal with the fact that they’ve got this problem on what they could afford.”

Man United’s Andre Onana transfer plan revealed

In terms of incomings at Old Trafford, Football Insider revealed on 23 June United can only move for a new first-choice goalkeeper if Andre Onana leaves the club this summer.

Sources say the Manchester giants value Onana at between £35-40million as they remain open to moving him on over the coming weeks.

The Cameroon international kept just 11 clean sheets in 50 appearances in the 2024-25 season.
