The Liverpool FC Women have several key players entering this summer with contracts expiring. Ceri Holland signed a new deal last week to extend her tenure with the club. Two of the other key figures with contract outstanding are midfielder Fuka Nagano and fullback Taylor Hinds.
Tom Garry of the Guardian has reported that Hinds is expected to move on from Liverpool when her deal ends this summer and make the switch to Arsenal, signing on a free transfer. Hinds has been a constant presence for the Reds since signing for the club in 2020. Her play as a wing back/fullback was key to helping the club get promoted from the Championship back to the WSL. The Jamaica international became a vice-captain in 2023 along with Niamh Fahey, with Hinds regularly wearing the armband as Fahey missed extended time through injury. Hinds has made 93 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 7 goals.
The expected move leaves large holes at both fullback positions for Liverpool. The Reds failed to sign a right back last summer after Emma Koivisto, instead relying on the young homegrown Lucy Parry to fill the role. Parry unfortunately dealt with an achilles issue that kept her out for most of the season, and limited her minutes when available. The only other cover this past season was Alejandra Bernabé, who was brought in on loan from Chelsea in January and has since returned to her club.
Filling the fullback positions may be a slow process as Liverpool have yet to name a new permanent manager. Whoever takes over the club will also need to identify a new captain with Niamh Fahey retiring and Taylor Hinds moving on. Ceri Holland and Gemma Bonner seem likely candidates for the role due to their tenure and on-field presence.
