James Trafford makes huge faux pas on social media as he nears move to Newcastle United - he'll …

· 29 June 2025, 15:00

**If the stories are to be believed, James Trafford could soon be on his way to Tyneside having agreed terms with Newcastle United.**

The 22-year-old Burnley goalkeeper has waited 12 months to make this move happen after a £20 million deal fell apart last summer.

After an amazing season for Burnley in the Championship, where the England stopper kept 29 clean sheets and helped Burnley back to the Premier League, the Clarets have, understandably, increased their asking price for Trafford, which is causing the deal to drag on slightly.

Burnley want £40 million for the young star while Newcastle have reportedly offered closer to £30 million. However, it's expected that the deal will happen this summer.

Oops!

James Trafford made a small error in spelling on Elliot Anderson's Instagram

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Trafford already endeared himself to the Geordie faithful last season after saving two Sunderland penalties in one game; however, he may have to put some work in now to restore that faith after a faux pas on Elliot Anderson's Instagram last night.

As Anderson celebrated England's Under-21s European Championship title victory, James Trafford, who won the competition two years ago, showed his support in the comments with "Haway" before incurring the restrained wrath of many Newcastle fans, including Anderson himself.

For the uninitiated, "Haway" is the Mackem way of spelling what we're sure he meant as "Howay". Anderson, and plenty of other Newcastle fans stepped in to correct him as if he's going to move to Newcastle, it's a very important distinction he'll have to make sure to get right.

Everybody gets one

We can forgive Trafford this once, as while he is from Cumbria and should perhaps know better, it's probably only a distinction that you'd know about were you from Tyne & Wear.

Just don't let it happen again, young man!

We've still got our fingers crossed that it will only be a matter of days before a deal is struck between Newcastle and Burnley and Trafford can finally make the move we've been waiting for.
