A member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Atlético Madrid has opened talks with Premier League outfit Sunderland, over the terms of a summer joining of forces.
That’s according to **[Mundo Deportivo](https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/atletico-madrid/20250629/1002491272/reinildo-apunta-premier-agente-libre.html)**, who point towards Reinildo Mandava as the player in question.
It has long been common knowledge that Mandava would be on the move with a view to next season.
This comes after the parties failed to come to an agreement on the terms of a renewal, ahead of the expiration of the 31-year-old’s contract at the end of June.
And as alluded to above, this weekend, the frontrunner to bring Mandava in over the weeks ahead has been revealed.
As per a report from MD:
‘Everything suggests he will continue his career in the Premier League. Sunderland are in negotiations to sign Atlético de Madrid defender Reinildo Mandava on a free transfer after his contract with the club expires. The Mozambican will be a free agent on July 1.’
Citing sources in England, MD point towards the contract talks between the parties centering on a wage packet in the region of €76,000-per-week.
