Everton have made fantastic progress since David Moyes returned back in January.

The Scot has brought a sense of optimism back to the Merseysiders, and crucially steered them away from the relegation zone in the second half of last season.

It promises to be an exciting few years for the Toffees, with The Friedkin Group ready to take them to new heights both on and off the pitch.

Unfortunately, that means they will have to make several difficult decisions along the way, and news has now emerged of a call which will mark something of an end of an era at Everton.

Tony Bellew reacts as Dominic Calvert-Lewin issues departure message

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s contract situation has been one of the major talking points of the summer so far at Everton.

The frontman’s contract has been due to expire at the end of June, but with discussions having been held with the club, it has remained unclear as to where his future may lie.

However, Calvert-Lewin has now erased any doubts about his situation by posting an emotional goodbye message to his Instagram account (29 June).

The 28-year-old expressed his pride at being able to pull on the famous Everton shirt, and also revealed that it has been an “incredibly difficult decision” to turn his back on the club that he has spent the last nine years at the heart of.

The striker has been flooded with a message of gratitude and support in the comments, including from Tony Bellew, who wrote: “Best of luck mate.”

Calvert-Lewin has been a great servant to Everton

Calvert-Lewin’s is just the latest in a string of emotional departures at Everton this summer as several senior players seem set to depart at the end of their contracts.

The striker has been unable to agree on renewed terms with the Toffees after some difficult seasons in recent years, but there can be no doubting the fact that he has played a key role in the club’s recent history.

The former Sheffield United man has worked tirelessly to lead the line for Everton over the years, and he has popped up with plenty of vital goals across his nine-year stay at Goodison Park.

Perhaps the most memorable was his late winner against Crystal Palace in May 2023, which secured the Toffees’ Premier League status for another season.

It is arguably the right time for Calvert-Lewin and Everton part ways after he struggled for form last season, but he should be remembered for the valuable contirbutions he has made over the years.
