There are a pair of weekend reports that purport to advance the ball when it comes to what's happening with the Washington Commanders and star wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who looms as a possible training camp holdout. ...
And the ball really isn't moving much, especially as the two reports are rather conflicting.
The situation, as Washington fans know: The Commanders are coming off an upstart season that saw them make the NFC title game last year ... and now have their eyes on even more. McLaurin - who caught 13 TD passes from then-rookie QB Jayden Daniels in 2024 - is a pivotal part of the plan.
As he readies to turn 30, he is due a contract extension that will surely end up paying him in excess of $30 million per year. ... and he held out from mandatory minicamp while awaiting progress there.
Now, to the reports ..
Albert Breer is saying that contract talks between the Commanders and McLaurin are "still not in a great place."
Wrote Breer: "They have a lot of work to do. I’d expect that work will pick up again when the league comes back from break in a few weeks. But it’s still not in a great place. So we’ll see what happens - there’s plenty of time to get something done.''
Frankly, outside of "not in a great place,'' the rest of that amounts to a bundle of words that are either empty or self-evident.
OK, what about the conflicting "report''? This one (which will won't link to) insists that "the Commanders and a Terry McLaurin extension could be close.'' ... but offers no evidence of any such thing.
"Could be close'' is probably coming.
"Not in a great place'' is probably going away.
But the ball is not being advanced here as nervous Washington fans await true movement on a deal for their standout receiver.
