Arsenal are intensifying their pursuit of Valencia’s 21-year-old centre-back Cristhian Mosquera, with a second bid imminent after their opening €14 million (£11.9m) offer was rejected.

The Gunners, led by sporting director Andrea Berta, have reached a full agreement on personal terms with the Spain Under-21 international, who is seen as a long-term asset to bolster their defensive depth behind William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães.

Talks with Valencia are ongoing, with Arsenal hopeful of securing a deal for around €20-22 million (£17-18.7m), including performance-based add-ons, as Mosquera’s contract nears its final year in June 2026.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal’s renewed proposal, expected this week, aims to meet Valencia’s valuation, which some sources suggest could climb to €25 million (£21.3m).

Mosquera, who started all but one La Liga match for Valencia last season and won gold at the 2024 Paris Olympics, has impressed with his composure and versatility, capable of playing in a back four or three.

His potential has drawn interest from RB Leipzig, AC Milan, and Aston Villa, but Arsenal’s project and Champions League prospects make them frontrunners.

Valencia captain Jose Gaya has urged Mosquera to stay, citing his potential to “bring joy” to fans, but the player’s openness to joining Arsenal, coupled with stalled contract renewal talks, strengthens the Gunners’ position.

No medical has been scheduled yet, as negotiations focus on finalising the transfer fee. Arsenal’s urgency is heightened by Takehiro Tomiyasu’s injury concerns and impending free agency in 2026, with Mosquera viewed as a strategic signing to ensure defensive continuity.

The transfer aligns with Mikel Arteta’s vision of building a youthful, adaptable squad to compete for the Premier League title. Fans are optimistic, with posts on X buzzing about Mosquera’s potential arrival alongside signings like Martin Zubimendi.

An announcement could follow soon if Arsenal’s improved bid satisfies Valencia’s demands, marking a significant coup for the North London club.
