A Newcastle United transfer target has now confirmed he’ll be a free agent imminently.
Newcastle United want to sign a new forward this summer, but have so far been frustrated in their attempts to land one.
Indeed, Newcastle saw Liam Delap join Chelsea instead of them, and the same thing could be set to happen again.
Joao Pedro has rejected Newcastle, with the Blues reportedly looking to sign the Brazilian international this summer too.
With that in mind, Eddie Howe and the recruitment staff at St James’ Park may need to get creative. To that end, confirmation that Dominic Calvert-Lewin is leaving Everton on a free transfer is interesting.

Geordie Boot Boys have been told that there’s a good chance Newcastle will move for Calvert-Lewin, who has long been linked with the Toon Army.

“My hope is that I leave with your respect, knowing I always sought to uphold the values of this great club.”
Dominic Calvert-Lewin statistics compared to Callum Wilson
Callum Wilson could leave Newcastle this summer, despite talks over a new contract.
Wilson’s deal expires imminently and there has so far been no official update on his future beyond the expiration of his current agreement.
Calvert-Lewin looks a natural replacement. He surely wouldn’t expect to start ahead of Alexander Isak, while William Osula offers further competition for places.

Based on last season’s statistics, Calvert-Lewin looks an upgrade on Wilson at this stage of his career.
While the Everton forward wasn’t prolific in his 19 starts, he did score more often than Wilson and also beat the veteran Newcastle star in some other key attacking metrics.
The idea of signing Calvert-Lewin is unlikely to get too many fans excited, after so long without a major first-team signing.
However, for depth within the Newcastle United squad, he looks a logical addition.
