Leeds United to suffer huge double transfer blow – rivals Sunderland to benefit

Leeds United saw their first two transfer deals of the summer go smoothly. So far, the club have been successful with their targets.

It was reported earlier this month that Daniel Farke plays a key part in the process. He talks to the targets before they proceed to sign. Lukas Nmecha mentioned this when he arrived. Leeds signed the German forward on a free transfer.

Strasbourg’s Habib Diarra was another key target; Leeds were engaged in talks with the French club. But the player had not been convinced of a move. The Whites made just one bid, before the deal was hijacked by Sunderland. According to Graeme Bailey, Leeds missed out because they did not think a deal was worth the £30million fee the Black Cats will pay.

Just over 24 hours after the news of a deal for Diarra, Sunderland have once again swooped in for another Leeds target. The Whites were linked with a move for Atletico Madrid left back Reinildo. The 31-year old was a target, as the club prepared for the eventual departure of Junior Firpo.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Reinildo will sign for Sunderland on a two-year deal.

Reinildo is a quality player

The Atletico Madrid man would have been a solid addition to the team. Even though his profile is much different from Firpo, his defensive upside is immense.

He provides a progressive outlet with the ball, and is one of the most solid defenders in Europe. Leeds could have gotten a very good player for free.
