Love is in the Air: Packers QB has headliner matchups in 2025

For Packers fans and most players, today's date June 29, 2025 just means there are 24 days until the start of training camp. For Packers quarterback Jordan Love it's his wedding day. The 26-year-old quarterback is marrying his longtime girlfriend, professional volleyball player Ronika Stone.

Heading into the 2025 season, the highlights of the year could be the intriguing quarterback matchups that are scattered throughout the schedule.

Jordan Love will be potentially be matched up with two former MVPs: Aaron Rodgers, Lamar Jackson, four Super Bowl Winning QBs (Rodgers, Joe Flacco, Jalen Hurts, Russell Wilson), five former No. 1 overall picks (Jared Goff, Joe Burrow, Kyler Murray, Bryce Young, Caleb Williams), last year’s offensive rookie of the year (Jayden Daniels) and a rematch of the 2023 Wild Card Game (Dak Prescott).

Love is just 1-3 in head-to-head with Goff and the Detroit Lions in two seasons and lost both starts against Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles last year. In Week 6, he will be matched up with Burrow for the first time, the first quarterback from the famed 2020 draft class. He has beaten Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa the last two seasons.

The Week 17 game against the Baltimore Ravens would pit Love against Jackson, a quarterback who has been dominant in his starts against NFC teams. Jackson is 24-2 in his starts against the NFC. The last time the Packers and Ravens played, Jackson was out injured and the Packers defeated backup Tyler Huntley in a 31-30 win.

Love has just one career start against a former MVP quarterback, which came in 2023 against Patrick Mahomes. Love and the Packers won the game 27-19.

As Love heads into his 6th season, there will be considerable pressure from fans and media for the Packers to get back to winning the NFC North and/or becoming a perennial Super Bowl threat.

The last time the Packers won the division was 2021, which means the Packers have lost out on the division the last three seasons. The Minnesota Vikings won the NFC North in 2022 and the Detroit Lions won the division in both 2023 and 2024.

In the last 30 years, the previous longest droughts for winning the division (NFC Central or NFC North) was four seasons (1998-2001) which came when the Packers had three head coaches in a three-season span (Holmgren, Rhodes, Sherman). They also made the playoffs in two of those seasons as a wild card.

The current three-year drought also happened from 2008 to 2010, which also included two playoff appearances as well as the Super Bowl XLV playoff run.

In that same time period (1995-2024), the Packers have 9 NFC Championship game appearances, the most among NFC teams. Currently, the five years between appearances is halfway through the longest drought which came during Brett Favre’s tenure (1997-2007).
