Pistons’ Malik Beasley center of federal investigation for gambling (report)

Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s office on gambling allegations, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Sunday.

The allegations are related to bets made on NBA games during the 2023-24 season.

“An investigation is not a charge,” Steve Haney, Beasley’s attorney, told ESPN. “Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”

Beasley was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Charania reported the guard and the Pistons were in “serious talks” about a three-year extension, but those talks have since been put on hold.

In his first season with the Pistons, Beasley averaged 16.3 points per game and shot 41.6% from 3-point range. He appeared in all 82 games for Detroit.
