Nick Woltemade has now told Chelsea who he wants to sign for this summer

One door may have shut with Jamie Gittens, but another appears to have opened with Nick Woltemade.

One of the stars of the U21 Euros has communicated his desire to pursue a permanent transfer to Bayern Munich this summer.

The 23-year-old followed up a strong showing in the Bundesliga last term – 12 goals and 2 assists in 28 German top-flight games – with a further nine goal contributions in the tournament.

Germany U21s lost 3-2 to their England counterparts in extra time in the competition’s final.

Gittens is now set to complete a move to Chelsea despite a last-minute hijack attempt.

Neither the Premier League nor Serie A will steal another top German talent from the Bundesliga.

Woltemade’s side has now informed Chelsea and Napoli that they have ended talks about a potential summer transfer.

There had been scheduled meetings between representatives of the two top clubs and the striker’s management already in place. These have now been officially cancelled.

The reason why: Nick Woltemade only wants to join FC Bayern.

What could Woltemade bring to Bayern Munich?

The VfB Stuttgart hitman is far from being a one-trick pony for Sebastian Hoeneß’s men.

Woltemade’s stocky nature (standing at an impressive 6′ 6″) may lead many to mistakenly label the Bundesliga a traditional target man. He is anything but!

Despite his towering presence, the Bremen-born star has showcased some remarkable dribbling skills and close control.

That isn’t a careless observation of the eye either – it’s a statistical fact. The footballer is perfectly comfortable progressing play by running with the ball and at opponents.

That’s not just with space to run into; Woltemade is also able to knit his way through tight spaces in and around the 18-yard box.

He’s equally adept at utilising his dribbling capabilities to create goalscoring opportunities for himself or chances for his teammates.

How will Vincent Kompany use Nick Woltemade?

Vincent Kompany could look to change his system to accommodate Woltemade’s skillset.

The Belgian head coach would have certainly done so for Florian Wirtz, had the German international not pursued a move to Liverpool.

As things currently stand, however, the Stuttgart player is considered a potential backup option for Bayern’s star striker, Harry Kane.
