Liverpool's summer transfer dealings so far have largely centred around incomings, with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez already through the door.

Now, the club’s hierarchy are focusing on offloading players before returning to the market to further strengthen Arne Slot’s squad. Among those facing an uncertain future at Anfield is striker Darwin Nunez, who has so far struggled to live up to the hefty price tag Liverpool paid for him in the summer of 2022.

Whether it's clubs in Europe or Saudi Arabia, the Uruguay international has suitors. Whether any of those interested parties are willing to meet Liverpool's asking price, however, remains to be seen.

Here, Echo Sport takes a look at the latest on Nunez’s future, and how close he may be to the exit door.

Napoli 'consider' alternatives'

Serie A champions Napoli have been the most heavily linked with Nunez in recent weeks. If reports on the continent are to be believed, the player himself is said to favour a move to Italy over the financial lure of Saudi Arabia.

However, according to Gianluca Di Marzio, Napoli now appear to be shifting their focus to Udinese forward Lorenzo Lucca to provide competition for Romelu Lukaku in their frontline. The 24-year-old is thought to represent a cheaper alternative to Nunez, who is reportedly valued at around £70m by Liverpool.

The report adds that while Nunez’s situation is still being monitored, Napoli are prepared to step up their pursuit of Lucca as early as next week, in a bid to reach a swift resolution with their Serie A counterparts.

Nunez 'gives' green light

Napoli’s decision to pursue other targets may come as a blow for Nunez, who had reportedly given the green light to a move. According to The Mirror, the forward believes he does not have a future at Anfield under Slot, having struggled for regular starts in the Premier League under the Dutchman.

Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli remains unresolved, and the report suggests that a potential sale of the Nigerian striker could help Napoli move closer to Liverpool’s valuation of Nunez. That said, Osimhen has so far turned down big-money offers from Saudi Arabia, while Europe’s elite are yet to firm up their interest.
