After beating Benfica 4-1 after extra-time in the Club World Cup Round of 16, Chelsea are looking ahead to the further rounds of the competition, and the upcoming domestic season. They have been active in the transfer window, “intensifying talks” for Dortmund’s Jamie Bynoe-Gittens. At the same time, Chelsea look to secure the services of Joao Pedro, who could join in time to play in the Club World Cup.
Chelsea Agree Deal for Joao Pedro in Hopes of Utilising Forward in Club World Cup
Deal in Excess of £50 Million
David Ornstein has revealed that Chelsea now “reach [an] agreement” with Brighton and Hove Albion, for their forward, Pedro. The deal will be in excess of £50 million, a respectable fee for the Seagulls to receive, though not an extortionate amount for the Blues to be forking out, given his technical ability.
Pedro will sign on a seven-year contract, something that has not been unusual at the club since Todd Boehly took over in 2022. These lengthy contracts help them balance the books in the long-term. The medical is currently being arranged. Ornstein also reports that the 23-year-old “only wanted” a move to Chelsea, proving that they are running a project that is attractive to players, even those in their prime.

Their new forward will join up with the Club World Cup squad; if registered before July 3, their new signing could help them to silverware and a lot of prize money.
Where Does Joao Pedro Fit in Alongside Jamie Bynoe-Gittens Signing?
Enzo Maresca will have a lot of forward talent at his disposal next season. Despite Jadon Sancho not signing on a permanent, Mykhailo Mudryk being handed a ban, and Christopher Nkunku looking set to leave, Chelsea still have a wealth of talented attacking options.
Cole Palmer holds down the number ten spot, highlighted by his new squad number. Meanwhile Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke are already at the club as strong wide options. Willian Estevao is set to join up with the team after the Club World Cup, whilst it looks like Bynoe-Gittens will also be signed this summer.

Meanwhile, up front, Liam Delap and Nicholas Jackson need minutes. It is unclear as to where their new ‘prolific’ forward will fit in as a starter, however his versatility should enable him to get a lot of time on the pitch, with the ability to play wide, as an attacking-midfielder, or as a striker. It appears that, whilst Pedro may not have a permanent starting position nailed on, he will be involved a lot, replacing Nkunku as the player that will be utilised across the frontline.
