Paul Ince charged with drunk driving after former Liverpool star crashed car

Former Liverpool, Manchester United and England star Paul Ince has been charged with drink-driving.

The 57-year-old ex-midfielder crashed his Range Rover into the central reservation near Neston, in Cheshire, England on Saturday evening. Police were called to the scene, arrested him, and subsequently charged him with drink driving. He is set to face Chester Magistrates next month.

A representative for Cheshire Police told the [Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-14858729/Paul-Ince-arrested-charged-drink-driving.html): "At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were alerted to a collision on Chester High Road, Neston.

"The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man.

"Paul Ince, of Neston, has since been charged with drink driving. Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester Magistrates' Court on Friday 18 July."

The crash occurred near Heswall Golf Club - a spot where Ince has previously shared photos from on Instagram. Ince turned out for West Ham, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Liverpool, Middlesbrough and Wolves during an illustrious career that spanned from 1986 to 2007.

His most fruitful period as a player was at United, where he clinched two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the League Cup under the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Ince earned 53 caps for England, featuring in Euro 1996, the 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 and made history as the first black man to captain the Three Lions. Following his retirement, he ventured into management, leading teams such as Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn, Notts County, Blackpool and Reading.

He departed from his last position at Reading in 2023 and has been unattached since. Ince has also lent his expertise to media outlets like Sky Sports as a pundit, frequently offering insights on Premier League football, particularly his old club United.

His son, Tom, is currently plying his trade as a winger for Watford, having previously played under his father's guidance at Reading.
