West Ham have the chance to bring in some more quality this summer
West Ham turned to Graham Potter during last season but things haven’t gone to plan for him at the London Stadium so far. The former Swansea City, Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea man was picked as their replacement for Julen Lopetegui. However, he has since struggled for results.
The Hammers are now preparing for his first full campaign at the helm and he will be under pressure from the off. They have the chance to bring in some more quality this summer. The London outfit also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door as well if needed.
West Ham should move for Nottingham Forest target Timothy Weah
According to ESPN, Nottingham Forest have agreed a £19million deal with Juventus for attacker Timothy Weah. However, the player has rejected their contract offer. West Ham should now take advantage and try and lure him to the capital. Everton and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked, as per TEAMtalk.
Weah, 25, needs to leave Italy for the sake of his career and must join a team where he is guaranteed game time. The Hammers would be an ideal next destination for him and could offer him the platform he needs to show what he can do. In addition, he would boost their attacking department which is crucial.
The USA international, who has 44 caps under his belt, joined Juventus back in 2023 but his future in Serie A is up in the air at this moment in time. If he joined the Hammers, he would give them more competition and depth going forward. Potter must get the right characters through the entrance door over the next couple of months and Weah is someone who has played at the top level for a while now, as well as on the international stage.
Why Timothy Weah would suit West Ham
West Ham must bolster their options at the top end of the pitch if they are too suceeed in the next campaign and compete higher up the table. They are too reliant on Jarrod Bowen for goals so securing Weah’s signature would help ease the load off their skipper. The New York-born man is also versatile which is useful and can play out wide, as well as down the middle.
Weah started out at New York Red Bulls before moving over to Europe as a youngster. He first stop was France with PSG and he went on to play six games for the Ligue 1 giants as a teenager. They also loaned him out to Celtic to get some experience and boost his development in Glasgow.
He was snapped up by Lille in 2019 and joined them on a permanent basis. Weah made 107 appearances in all competitions and scored eight goals before Juventus came calling. He has since played 78 matches since his switch to Turin and has found the net on seven occasions, six of which came last term, but they appear to be willing to let him depart now.
Nottingham Forest have been interested in bringing him to the City Ground as they gear up for life in the Europa League. Nuno Espirito Santo wants to acquire more bodies to help deal with the increased number of fixtures that are coming his team’s way. A transfer doesn’t look to be happening anymore though which could open the door for rivals like West Ham to swoop in.
