The Celtics are picking up a $2.3 million team option on point guard JD Davison for the 2025-26 season, a league source confirms to MassLive. Boston had until Sunday at 5 p.m. to exercise the option.
Boston signed Davison last April to the team’s final roster spot on the 15-man roster, promoting the two-way guard after he won the G-League MVP. Davison spent the first three seasons of his career on a two-way deal before the promotion after being selected No. 53 overall in the NBA Draft. He was also named to the Rising Stars challenge at All-Star weekend back in February.
Davison is no longer eligible for a two-way deal with the Celtics so making the 15-man roster out of training camp is his only path to remaining with the organization. His $2.3 million contract for next season is non-guaranteed so the team could cut him at any point before opening night without taking a salary cap hit.
The 22-year-old guard has appeared in a total 36 NBA games over the last three seasons, averaging 2.1 points and 0.9 assists per game.
