Patriots legends reveal what QB they’d want to play for if Tom Brady didn’t exist

Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman had the luxury of playing with, and winning several Super Bowls with Tom Brady as their quarterback.

But if Brady didn’t exist, who would the former New England Patriots duo want as quarterback?

“Josh Allen,” Gronkowski said on a recent episode of the “Dudes on Dudes” podcast. “I love his game. That was a no-brainer for me. That was the first quarterback that popped up in my head.”

While Edelman liked his former teammates pick, he had someone else in mind.

“I would love to have (Joe) Burrow,” Edelman said. “I mean, you would love to have (Patrick) Mahomes. Our offense is a little different. There’s a little more drop-back pass. I don’t know. Mahomes is pretty good, too, but I think Burrow. I don’t want someone running as much as Mahomes on those third downs. I want them throwing because I want those third downs.”

Allen was the 2024 NFL MVP after leading the Bills to a 13-4 record. They ultimately fell in the AFC Championship Game to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Bills quarterback completed 63.6% of his passes for 3,731 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Burrow, meanwhile, didn’t have as much success with the Bengals in 2024. Cincinnati went 9-8 and missed the playoffs, two years after making it to Super Bowl LVI.

Despite a down year for the Bengals, Burrow still racked up 4,918 yards, 43 touchdowns — both of which led the NFL — and completed 70.6 of his passes.
