Former Pittsburgh high school, Bengals star ‘absolutely’ wants to play for Steelers

Former Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Tyler Boyd is now a free-agent after a one year stint with the Tennessee Titans, and he hopes to come home and play for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Saturday at his yearly camp in his hometown of Clairton, Boyd says he hopes to play for the Steelers and would ‘absolutely’ be open to playing for the team.

“Absolutely,” Boyd told Austin Bechtold about playing for the steelers. “You know, all my family is here. I’d be able to have the majority, all of my family, be able to support me.”

In the past, Boyd, who grew up a Steelers fan, has been openly critical of the team’s culture and what has gone down in their locker room from the outside.

Boyd says that he and head coach Mike Tomlin have a great relationship, and he has a ‘few years’ left in the tank.

“I believe so,” Boyd said. “I’m real cool with (head coach Mike) Tomlin. He’s always been a good person. When I was at Pitt, we had a good relationship. After practice, I’d walk over there and talk to AB (Antonio Brown) and those guys, talk to Tomlin, just pick at different things where I could get better and get a feel of some guidance. He was always a great guy and we always spoke. I think we had a great friendship. But I mean, if it happens, it happens. If not, it is what it is.”

The Steelers talked with Boyd last offseason about a return. They could have looked to trade for him during the trade deadline, but they opted to go after Mike Williams instead. Now, Boyd is a free agent again, and the Steelers could try to sign him. Boyd had 39 receptions for 390 yards in 16 games a year ago with the Titans in a dysfunctional offense.
