No NBA deal, no panic: McVeigh eyes Next Shot

Jack McVeigh could be on his way out of the Houston Rockets, according to recent reports, but the 29-year-old is far from giving up on his NBL dream.

The former Tasmania JackJumpers champion played nine NBA games last season, spending much of the year in the G League and putting up impressive numbers.

Back home in Australia for the off-season, he's now heading back to the United States to continue his incredible journey.

“I fly out Tuesday morning and then we get back to it, with Summer League, talking to teams, working out with teams,” McVeigh told 7News Adelaide.

“A year ago I was sitting in the NBL and I said I would be happy with my career if I could score one NBA bucket… well, I was lying.”

McVeigh signed a two-way deal with the Rockets in July 2024, just months after winning Championship Series MVP and leading the JackJumpers to their maiden title.

He averaged 15.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game for the Vipers across 37 G League appearances.

The Athletic’s Kelly Iko reported via Twitter that McVeigh would be waived by Houston on Monday.
