WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Just seven days ago, Waco native and University High School graduate Kenrich Williams became the first Wacoan to win an NBA Championship.
The first thing Williams wanted to do was celebrate his win with his hometown.
“I was thinking about this the whole time,” said Williams. “Just being able to bring it back home to the city and have something to celebrate about, and just to give some inspiration to the community around me.”
Today, Hundreds of people showed up to Brazos Park East to attend Williams’ block party celebration. Williams was able to meet with fans, sign autographs, visit with friends, and reflect on one of his greatest accomplishments.
“My personality really defines Waco and what it’s about,” said Williams. “It’s just a surreal feeling to be here right now in front of the community, and I’m just super thankful.”
Waco city council member Josh Borderud also stopped by the block party to present Williams with a city proclamation, declaring June 29, 2025 as “Kenrich Williams Day.”
“Kenrich Williams is a world champion who exemplifies hustle and heart,” said Borderud. “The city of Waco is beyond proud.”
When asked about his reason for immediately celebrating in the city of Waco, Williams said he wanted to display his hard work for kids who have been keeping up with his entire career.
“Whatever you do, whether that’s being an athlete or if you’re into music or if you’re a barber or anything, don’t stop working,” said Williams. “Just continue to work hard, work everyday, and don’t stop believing in yourself.”
