Wolves are in the hunt for some new faces this summer ahead of next season

Wolves have sold Matheus Cunha and Rayan Ait-Nouri already this summer. They have left for Manchester United and Manchester City respectively. The Midlands outfit could now do with landing some signings for themselves over the next couple of months.

Vitor Pereira has done an impressive job since taking over from Gary O’Neil during the last campaign. He managed to keep the Midlands outfit in the Premier League with relative comfort in the end. The former FC Porto man has become a popular figure at Molineux.

Wolves linked with Igor at Brighton and Hove Albion

Wolves are being linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Igor. According to El Diario Vasco, they have ‘picked up the phone’ for the centre-back. However, they face competition from Leeds United, Crystal Palace and Real Sociedad in pursuit of his signature.

Igor, 27, is under contract at the AMEX Stadium until June 2027. However, his long-term future at the AMEX Stadium is up in the air. The Seagulls have a big decision to make regarding his situation, especially if an offer comes in from elsewhere.

The Brazilian joined Brighton in July 2023 and he has since made 49 appearances in all competitions, 16 of which came last season. He isn’t a regular starter for the Sussex club at the moment, hence why he may well leave for a new challenge somewhere else. Prior to his transfer to England, he spent three years at Fiorentina in Serie A.

Would Igor suit Wolves?

Wolves could see Igor as someone to boost their defensive ranks. If they snapped him up, he would give them more competition and depth at the back. He would also give Pereira a different option to pick from as he prepares for his first full term at the helm.

He started his career at Red Bull Brasil before moving over to Europe as a youngster. Liefering were the first team to sign him in Austria before he went on to have spells at Red Bull Salzburg, Wolfsberger, Austria Wien and SPAL. Fiorentina came calling in 2020 and he played 77 matches during his days in Florence.

After joining Brighton, Igor said: “I chose Brighton because I like the possession based football, the amount of time spent on the ball. It’s like the way Barcelona played; so many touches, making the opponents run a lot.

“When the opportunity arose, I knew that I wanted to play for a team like that. Possession football, keeping hold of the ball and combining with each other. That was something that really caught my attention. It’s the way I have always wanted to play so it’s a perfect combination. It’s happened at the right time for me to continue evolving as a player here at a new club.”

He added: “They always told me in Italy that I was suited to the Premier League, they told me I should play in the Premier League because of how physical I was. I always wanted to play in England, that’s why I came here.”
