All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Arsenal as they continue their bid to strengthen their squad.
Arsenal are now pressing ahead with their summer transfer plans, clearly keen to make a strong start to what will be a busy off-season. The Gunners need depth aplenty, and they also need to snap up a starting striker and a winger who can compete for a starting spot.
We are now seeing Andrea Berta make serious progress with transfers, with agreements being struck both home and abroad. Here we round up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding the Emirates Stadium.
Zubimendi headed for London soon
Arsenal are said to be close to welcoming Martin Zubimendi ahead of pre-season, with a £54million deal reportedly agreed. The value of the deal is more than the release clause so that the Gunners can pay in instalments.
According to AS, Zubimendi’s official arrival at Arsenal will come soon, with the midfielder said to have planned to say goodbye to his teammates over the coming days as they return for pre-season training. The midfielder is then expected to jet to London to start pre-season with the Gunners.
Gyokeres latest
Sporting CP president Federico Varandas has provided an update on Viktor Gyokeres as Arsenal continue to chase the striker, albeit alongside Benjamin Sesko. Varandas has said: “Sporting is calm regarding this matter. Secondly, Sporting does not need to sell Viktor Gyökeres. Fortunately, we have moved past the phase of selling our main asset.
"However, we remain sensitive to Viktor’s dreams or those of any other athlete. Sporting has made a commitment that, after weeks of meetings, we will not demand the full amount of the clause; we will be reasonable regarding the amount requested for Viktor.
Today, there is a strong likelihood that he will leave. I won’t disclose the amount, but the player knows what it is. I can say that Viktor will not leave for 60+10m. He won’t leave, absolutely not. In recent weeks, we have been paying attention. I saw a player, Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, go for 65 million, and I saw Matheus Cunha move to Manchester United for around 75 million euros. We are talking about players who are 26 years old. I believe Viktor could leave, unless he has the worst agent in the world, which I don’t believe, as his agent is one of the best in the world."
Norgaard praise
TalkSport pundit Natalie Sawyer has hit back at critics over Arsenal’s signing of Christian Norgaard. Sawyer is a Brentford fan who has seen plenty of Norwood, and she has said: “There’s been a lot of snobbery I’ve seen about him and whether or not he’s really the type of player Arsenal should be looking at. Yes, I’m surprised – I didn’t see it coming. He’s our club captain, and I’m gutted that he might be leaving. But what you’re getting is a proper No.6.
“He starts the build-up play, he’s the one who puts in the tackles, does the dirty work, makes the tactical fouls when needed, and he’s even a threat at set-pieces. He’s not prolific, but he chips in with goals. He’s a Steady Eddie—and honestly, isn’t that what you want from a defensive midfielder?”
