Texas forward Kadin Shedrick signs with Cleveland Cavaliers for NBA Summer League

Texas forward Kadin Shedrick will be donning the Cleveland Cavaliers’ red as the NBA 2K26 Summer League jumps into action in July.

Shedrick, who finished out his final two years of college eligibility with Texas, originally had some analysts projecting him as atop-100 2025 NBA Draft prospect. However, during his performance at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament in April, Shedrick suffered a hand injury that dislocated two fingers.

After nearly two months of recovery, Shedrick returned to the court just 12 days before the draft and squeezed in six workouts. His persistence made all the difference, and throughHigh School OT’s Instagram, he announced his summer league contract with the Cavaliers.

Shedrick shot for .575 throughout his two seasons with the Longhorns, hitting 36% outside of the paint for three and nearly 70% from the free throw line, although his average points during the 2024-25 season sit at just 8.7 per game. Shedrick served as a rebound machine, averaging nearly five rebounds per game and totaling 318 over his two years in the burnt orange.

When Shedrick gets to Cleveland, he’ll have the opportunity to earn a spot on the roster of a team with the best record in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs are regular members of postseason play, racking up a record of 64—18 during their most recent season.

But to gain that regular-season uniform, Shedrick will need to show out. Cleveland isn’t in dire need of more big men, with Jarrett Allen and Evan Mobley already making a strong presence on the frontcourt. Allen and Mobley are both young and high scorers, making them a critical component of Cleveland’s starting lineup.

To be the next in line, Shedrick will need to capitalize on every point-making opportunity, showcase his rebounding ability and use his 6-foot-11 frame to get scrappy on the defensive end of the court.

The NBA 2K26 Summer League runs July 10-20 in Las Vegas. Shedrick is the second Longhorn in this draft cycle to sign a contract and compete for a spot in basketball’s highest league, joining fellow Texas forward Arthur Kaluma, who signed with the Los Angeles Lakers.
