Man Utd have reportedly made a move for a striker target as they look to get their transfer business moving

Matheus Cunha has already joined the club with that move sealed early into the transfer window but completed more deals has proven more complicated than hoped. United have seen two bids rejected for Mbeumo with offers worth £55m and £62.5m knocked back by Brentford.

The Red Devils remain interested in Mbeumo and also need a striker. Amorim’s side struggled in front of goal last season with a lack of goals one of the big factors behind their lowest-ever Premier League finish and points tally.

The likes Viktor Gyökeres, Victor Osimhen and Hugo Ekitike have been linked but one report has now claimed an alternate target with plenty of Premier League experience is now being eyed.

Man Utd submit bid for Ivan Toney - report

According to Fichajes in Spain, United have made an offer to Al-Ahli to sign England international Ivan Toney. The proposal is worth £29.9m with £25.6m up front and the rest in add ons.

Toney scored 23 goals and provided four assists in the Saudi Pro League last season but at the age of 29 he still has plenty to offer. He has 36 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League for Brentford but left the club last summer to join Al-Ahli.

Speaking about the player previously, former Brentford boss Thomas Frank said of him: “Ivan is amazing in many, many aspects. The way he copes with pressure and distractions is amazing.

“He’s been scoring goals, performing for the team and driving the team. He’s remarkable.

“I can only talk about the Ivan that I see every day around the place and he’s a fantastic person around the group. He’s got that unique emotional intelligence to be aware of all the players, and every staff member.

“Ivan trains well and he’s clearly the number two striker in England, that’s proven by his goals and performances."

Man Utd move for Ivan Toney is genius for three reasons

The first reason why a move for Toney would represent smart business is the transfer fee, if an offer around £30m is accepted then United will secure a proven Premier League striker for less half the price of what is being quoted for other attacking targets.

Toney is also at the right age to spend a number of years at Old Trafford. Another positive factor to a potential deal is he already has a strong relationship with Mbeumo from the pair’s time at Brentford. If the Red Devils can get a deal over the line for the Cameron international, the pair could hit the ground running to give Amorim a major boost for next season.

Toney himself may also be open to the move as it is a World Cup year. The striker was called into the latest England squad under Thomas Tuchel despite playing in Saudi Arabia but his chances of making the squad for the tournament in Canada, USA and Mexico will significantly increase if he is playing in the Premier League.
