Arsenal&Man Utd target Viktor Gyokeres will refuse to return to Sporting

Viktor Gyokeres has informed Sporting Lisbon that he has no intention of returning to the club, according to Record.

The 27-year-old is desperately seeking a departure this summer amid interest from Arsenal and Manchester United.

He believes he had a gentleman’s agreement to leave Sporting for a €70 million fee this summer.

But club president Frederico Varandas has publicly declared he would not be sold for that amount.

Gyokeres reportedly feels betrayed, and he has threatened to not show up for pre-season training.

Sporting are not under any pressure to sell, with the striker having three years left on his contract at Estádio José Alvalade. But it could also be risky for them to keep an unhappy player at their club.

Both Arsenal and United are keen on Gyokeres, but he is thought to favour a move to the Emirates Stadium.

Mikel Arteta’s side submitted a bid worth €65m, which was turned down.

Arsenal could return with another offer, but it is unlikely they will be ready to meet Sporting’s €80m valuation.

Meanwhile, Man Utd will not be able to afford to meet the Lions’ transfer demands.

The Red Devils have already wrapped up a €73m move for Matheus Cunha, and they are edging closer to signing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

Therefore, a transfer for Gyokeres only looks possible if Sporting are ready to lower their fee.
