Rasmus Hojlund’s possible move from Manchester United to Inter Milan is stalled
Manchester United are facing another summer of intense rumours and crucial decisions. It is not unusual for their sporting project to be under scrutiny, but this time the name on everyone’s lips is Rasmus Hojlund.
The Danish striker arrived with the label of a future goal scorer, but his current form at Old Trafford leaves room for doubt. Fans expected much more from his performance in front of the goal. In the lead up to the 2025/26 season, his lack of goals is worrying the board and fuelling rumours about his possible departure. In this situation, Inter Milan have come forward with an offer that could change his immediate future.
According to Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel, Inter are very interested in Hojlund. The Italian club have been in talks with the player’s entourage and United since May. Despite these talks, Inter decided to sign Ange-Yoan Bonny, a young striker from Parma, while leaving the door open for Hojlund.

Given Hojlund’s struggles this season, would offloading him to Inter be a wise move for Manchester United’s long-term attacking strategy?
The Italians’ idea was to secure a loan with an obligation to buy under favourable conditions. Manchester United, on the other hand, remained firm: either there is a permanent sale or the player stays. The journalist assured that there is no agreement and that the matter is on ‘standby’, with no clear progress.
“We know there was strong interest from Inter, who made contact with the player side and with Man Utd since May. But Inter are signing [Ange-Yoan] Bonny, a young, talented striker from Parma. For Hojlund at the moment, they still don’t have any sort of agreement with Manchester United. Inter wanted to start with a loan deal with a buy option to become an obligation with quite easy conditions. Man Utd insist permanent transfer or the player is staying. So there’s still a gap between the parties. At the moment, nothing has been agreed.
Then Inter’s young striker Francesco Pio Esposito is developing very well. He scored in a friendly against River Plate, and so maybe Inter are revisiting their ideas for the striker position for next season. Romano concluded by declaring Hojlund to Inter is on “standby” and is “not advancing.” Rasmus Hojlund has struggled to find the back of the net in 2024/25 for United, and there were links that United are looking to offload him this summer.”
Opinion:
Manchester United’s stance makes sense if you analyse the market value of a young striker. Selling the 22-year-old on loan with soft conditions could mean a loss in a year if Hojlund regains his scoring touch away from Old Trafford. However, his goal drought cannot be ignored either. It is frustrating to see a promising number nine lacking confidence in front of the goal.

At this point, the option of loaning him to a competitive club like Inter sounds interesting. The Italian environment could help him mature his game and return stronger, as long as the purchase option is well structured to protect United’s interests. Even so, if Inter manage to secure overly favourable terms, United would be exposed. That is why I maintain that, if the offer does not guarantee a good future income, it is worth retaining him and working on his internal development.
Ruben Amorim and his team must decide whether they trust in his ability to turn the situation around. The Red Devils’ attack urgently needs goals. Patience with Hojlund cannot go on forever, but sacrificing his potential for a half-hearted exit is not justified either. Remaining firm in negotiations is key to not giving away assets. Only a loan with favourable clauses and clear objectives could balance the sporting and financial stakes.
