Manchester United are keen to bolster their attacking options this summer

Manchester United remain in talks with Brentford over a move for forward Bryan Mbeumo with transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano claiming that there is still a strong possibility of a deal being done.

United had seen a second bid worth up to £62.5m rejected by the Bees on Friday. £55m of that was up front with an additional £7.5m in add-ons. The total offer was the same amount the Red Devils spent on Matheus Cunha but with the player having a £62.5m release clause in his contract, all of they money will be paid while the offer for Mbeumo was only a guaranteed £55m.

The Old Trafford outfit had seen an initial bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons rejected earlier in the month. However, the club have not walked away from a move as Mbeumo is keen to join United.

Newcastle United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have all shown an interest in the player but he has made it clear he prefers a move to the Red Devils.

Fabrizio Romano gives update on Man Utd pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said of United’s plans to sign Mbeumo following the rejection of their latest bid: “I can tell you that today, even if it's Sunday, the contacts continue, even today, between Manchester United and Brentford.

“So constant contacts between the two clubs to reach an agreement for Bryan Mbeumo. There is still no here we go, but may United keep working on that, United keep advancing, United keep their confidence and their optimism to make the deal happen.

“So Manchester United are going very strong for Bryan Mbeumo, and now the feeling is quite positive on that one, once again.

“So don't forget the Bryan Mbeumo deal for the next days, for the next week also, because may United will be pushing and pushing again to get it over the line, and so the here we go is still a strong possibility for Bryan Mbeumo as a new Manchester United player.”

As noted above, a number of United’s Premier League rivals have also expressed an interest in Mbeumo. However, despite not being able to offer any European football next season, the forward wants to move to Old Trafford.

Alongside Cunha, the attacking midfielder could help transform United’s fortunes in front of goal. The pair scored 35 league goals between them last campaign, which was only nine fewer than the entire Red Devils squad managed in the Premier League.

Newcastle and Arsenal can offer Mbeumo Champions League football while Spurs can also provide the same lure after winning the Europa League. Tottenham have also appointed Thomas Frank as manager, which would have seen Mbeumo quickly reunite with the coach who he has enjoyed success under in the Premier League.
