When the Lakers pulled off the blockbuster trade for Luka Doncic last season, it sent shockwaves through the league, but it also came with a price. Parting ways with Anthony Davis left a glaring hole at the center position, one that the team has been trying to patch up ever since.
Now, as the offseason heats up, fans are weighing in on what that fix should look like. After a reporter floated the idea of adding a 6-foot-9 unrestricted free agent from the Nets, Lakers fans didn’t hold back in making their thoughts on the potential move crystal clear.
The man in question here is Day’Ron Sharpe. The Brooklyn Nets have decided not to extend Day’Ron Sharpe his one-year, $5.98 million qualifying offer, which means he’s now heading into free agency with no strings attached. The Nets are still hoping to bring him back, but letting him hit the open market gives them a bit more wiggle room with their cap space.
Trevor Lane, the host of Lakers Nation, reacted to the news with witty wordplay, saying, "Would be a sharp get for the Lakers…". While Lane might think that Sharpe would be a good addition, his fellow Lakers fans do not feel the same way, and they made their feelings known by reacting to his post.
One fan said, "This guy is 6’9”. Not the one!"
A critic added, "Nobody wants to play for the bum (expletive) lakers lol"
"I see what you did there," said a fan appreciating good word play.
"decent back-up but poor athleticism," commented a fan rejecting the move.
Another comment said, "so we should get a 6’9 pf that can’t shoot? vanderbilt?"
One of the very few fans to approve of the idea said, "Good fish for Lakers"
Day’Ron Sharpe is definitely going to draw some interest on the market, especially after putting together his best season yet in 2024-25. Under head coach Jordi Fernandez, Sharpe really found his stride, averaging 7.9 points and 6.6 boards in just 18 minutes a game.

He’s also become one of the league’s best offensive rebounders, so you can bet a few teams will try to pry him away from Brooklyn. Michael Scotto reported the Nets still want him back and only let him hit free agency for cap flexibility, so it’ll be interesting to see where he lands.
