Latest Premier League news and rumours including Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United
Clubs across the Premier League have the chance to bring in some new signings this summer. Work is already underway around the division as teams gear up for the 2025/26 season. Arsenal fell short in the title race in the last campaign behind Liverpool.
According to CaughtOffside, the Gunners have restarted ‘talks’ to sign Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman. Mikel Arteta is keen to land the player who is believed to be valued at £43 million by his club. He has caught the eye playing in Serie A over recent times.
Lookman, 27, moved over to Italy in 2022 and hasn’t looked back since. He has scored 52 goals in 117 games, 20 of which came last term. His current club are now likely to face a real battle to keep hold of him over the next couple of months.
The 3am Verdict: Arsenal could see Ademola Lookman as someone to boost their attacking department. If he joined, he would give them something different at the top end of the pitch. He has experience of playing in England before following his spells at Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham and Leicester City. The attacker is quick, tricky and would inject more pace into Mikel Arteta’s squad as they look to finally win the title.
Chelsea join Emi Martinez pursuit
Chelsea have joined Manchester United in pursuit of Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez, as per The Mirror. The report claims his price tag is £45million. His long-term future at Villa Park is up in the air at this moment in time amid transfer speculation.
Martinez, 32, won the World Cup with Argentina back in 2022 in Qatar and stood out in that particular tournament. He has been Villa’s number one over the last five years and has made 212 appearances in all competitions. Prior to his switch to the Midlands, he spent a decade on the books at Arsenal but wasn’t never quite able to become their first choice.
The 3am Verdict: Emi Martinez is a proven Premier League goalkeeper and would significantly strengthen Chelsea’s goalkeeping options if he joined them. However, at the age of 32, £45 seems quite steep and there are much younger alternatives out there. The Blues may also have to see off competition from Manchester United, who will need a stopper if Andre Onana left Old Trafford. Martinez is a safe pair of hands and has a lot of experience at the top level.
Newcastle United eye Johan Bakayoko
Bakayoko joined his current club back in 2019 and has since risen into their first-team. The 22-year-old has become one of their most prized assets but they risk losing him now. He has found the net on 33 occasions in 185 matches already to date.
The 3am Verdict: At the age of 22, Johan Bakayoko has already played a decent amount of games for PSV. He has bags of potential and will only get better. He could be a great addition for Newcastle United if they got him and would compete with the likes of Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes for a place in their starting XI. They need as many bodies as possible in their squad to help deal with the increased number of fixtures that will be coming their way next season in Europe. Bakayoko may also be an alternative target to Anthony Elanga at Nottingham Forest.
