Dominic Calvert-Lewin has emotionally said farewell to Everton.

If it wasn’t already evident that Everton needed to sign a striker this summer, it certainly became so when Calvert-Lewin’s exit was confirmed.

The 28-year-old will leave the Toffees on a free transfer, having struggled for form and fitness over the last few seasons, though that isn’t likely to deter potential suitors.

A whole host of Premier League clubs have been mooted as a potential landing spot for the striker, with Celtic an interesting alternative to that.

Celtic urged to sign Calvert-Lewin this summer

Leeds have been mentioned as a possible destination for the now-former Toffees striker, though a move to Scotland was mooted live on talkSPORT (30 June, 07:50 am).

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

In their transfer Tinder segment, the topic of Calvert-Lewin joining Celtic was brought up, and Ally McCoist could see perfect sense in the move.

He said: “I’ll tell you right now, yeah. It’s fitness for me. If you get him on a pitch, he would absolutely do well at Celtic.

“There’s no doubt about it. Pacey, good in the air. Scores goals. Just a question over fitness. That’s all, that’s all I’ve got. But I would probably swipe right with that one.”

As for Calvert-Lewin himself, he would likely welcome the move.

A chance to rekindle his career elsewhere may be exactly what he needs, and the chance to join a team dominating domestic football in their country, as well as Champions League football, could be perfect.

Thierno Barry to replace Calvert-Lewin?

It is abundantly clear now that Everton have to be prioritising the signing of a new striker, and amid links to Thierno Barry, they have the perfect option.

Someone with time on their side will be crucial for the Toffees to build for the future, while also being able to rely on them to score goals.

Barry, at 22 years old, fits both of those requirements and could prove to be the next signing under David Moyes, and it would be a real coup for the Merseyside outfit.
