‘Top player’ at Man Utd has real ‘quality’ that is ‘definitely there’ for everyone to see, ‘nobody needs to say…’

Former Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah has insisted that there are two “important things” that he wants to see from one player at Old Trafford.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah rose through the ranks of the Manchester United youth academy and made his senior debut at Old Trafford under Louis van Gaal.

The 27-year-old Dutch player made 30 senior appearances for the Red Devils and had been tipped as a long-term prospect at the Premier League club.

However, Fosu-Mensah’s career at Old Trafford did not lift off and the former Netherlands international had loan spells at Fulham and Crystal Palace.

The former United academy prospect’s playing spell at the Red Devils finally came to an end after Fosu-Mensah signed for German side Bayer Leverkusen.

Bayer Leverkusen agreed an undisclosed fee to sign Fosu-Mensah, who became part of the United youth set-up in 2014 after leaving the Ajax academy, at the time in 2021.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah drops his clear-cut stance on former Man Utd teammate Marcus Rashford

Former Netherlands defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is now a free agent after his spell with Bayer Leverkusen had come to an end last summer.

Fosu-Mensah did not receive a Bundesliga winner’s medal during the 2023-24 title-winning season after he didn’t feature in a single match for Leverkusen.

The former Leverkusen player witnessed the rise of Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford and he made his stance clear on his former Manchester United teammate.

Fosu-Mensah insisted that he is hopeful that “good things will happen to the club and to the players” and singled out Marcus Rashford with praise as well.

Speaking to The Independent, the ex-United defender suggested that Rashford’s true “quality” as a player is evident for everyone to see on the pitch.

“I just want him to be happy,” he said.

“Everybody just wants him to be happy. The most important things [are] for him to feel good, for him to feel happy.

“Look, the quality is definitely there. Nobody needs to say anything about this quality, because he’s a top player.”

Marcus Rashford’s future at Man Utd is likely to be decided this summer amid Old Trafford return

Marcus Rashford has been on loan at Aston Villa and the 27-year-old England international’s current deal with the Premier League club will expire on 30th June.

Aston Villa did have the option to make Rashford’s move permanent for a £40m transfer fee this summer, but the club chose not to exercise the option.

Rashford’s future at United remains uncertain after he left Old Trafford during the second half of the 2024-25 season and completed the move to Villa Park.

The Three Lions ace had fallen down the pecking order under Ruben Amorim and Rashford was able to revive his career away from Old Trafford during his Villa spell.

Rashford has been linked with Barcelona in recent weeks and the former Villa player’s current contract with United will expire in 2028.
