Kesler-Hayden, 22, spent last season on loan at Preston North End and made 47 appearances for the Lilywhites in all competitions, 40 of which came in the league, and he scored two goals. He was due back at Aston Villa for pre-season but his future has been up in the air.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Percy has claimed on X that he is heading for the Sky Blues. They lost in the play-offs last month to Sunderland.

He has also been on the radar of Southampton and Middlesbrough recently. Journalist Graeme Bailey told EFL Analysis: “I heard Southampton. I heard Middlesbrough. I think he’s got a bit of interest to be fair to him. I’m not saying he’s not heading to Coventry by any stretch of the imagination. But he’s got a few Championship options on the table.

“We know Southampton and Middlesbrough are losing full-backs so that makes sense. But there are about three or four teams in the Championship who like him.”

Coventry City have the chance to bring in reinforcements over the next couple of months. They could see Kesler-Hayden as someone to bolster their defensive department.

He has been loaned out from the Midlands in the past to Swindon Town, MK Dons, Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle to get some experience under his belt. The Solihull-born man was then given the green light to spend the last campaign with Preston North End to further boost his development.

What now for Coventry City?

Coventry City are in the hunt for some new faces. They will be eyeing promotion to the Premier League next term after missing out last time around.

Kesler-Hayden caught the eye on loan at Preston North End and is a bright talent. Securing him on a full-time basis will be a smart move by Lampard’s side.

He is young, has potential and has already experienced life in the Football League. Leaving Aston Villa is a shrewd decision for him and will help him get regular football.
