INDIANAPOLIS – These are the boots on the ground identifiers of the talent and the character.
It’s time for our annual summer series where we look back on the Colts draft picks in 2025, via the scouts.
Here are the Colts scouts on 1st round pick Tyler Warren:
Area scout Chad Henry loves his nicknames when it comes to draft prospects.
Well, he found one for Warren:
Truck.
“Because he’s big, strong, reliable, and he’s a guy that trucks the defenders,” Henry says.
“This is a big man now. We have a hard time, anymore, finding guys that size (at tight end), because you’re looking at a bunch of 230-pound guys that are basically an extra receiver. This guy happens to be an extra receiver who can knock the crap out of people, both on the line of scrimmage and in space.
That combination of a fluid running 256-pounder at tight end is a big reason why the Colts were so intrigued with Warren in the draft process.
And Henry also fell in love with the multiple ways Penn State used Warren.
Remember, we are talking about a tight end who lined up at running back, a wildcat quarterback, at every wide receiver/tight end spot, averaging an eye-popping 8 yards per carry, too.
Physically, that’s impressive.
Henry doesn’t want to ignore the mental acumen of the player either.
“He’s highly intelligent,” Henry says of Warren.
“To use him the way that they used him, in all the different spots, you could see the former quarterback in him. When he came into our room at the Combine, he sounded like a coach.”
Don’t think for one second the Colts are going to shy away from**using Warren in more areas than just as an in-line tight end**.
They saw what Penn State did and how Warren flourished in all those roles.
Warren might be a truck, but he is one that can go on a variety of roads.
