West Ham fans want more ambition | Club source denies striker rumour

This weekend’s re-emergence of one particular name as a Hammers’ target – via an article in the Standard.co.uk has caused eyebrows to be raised amongst many West Ham fans who have grown weary of the club’s litany of failed striker signings and are anxious to avoid another Fullkrug-esque injury-prone frontman arriving at London Stadium.

Yesterdays’ article detailing ‘talks’ between Dominic Calvert-Lewin and West Ham-reported to have taken place a couple of weeks ago – has now been denied by a Hammers’ club spokesman who repeated  the line from months (or was it years) ago when the story last gained traction.

For those who took to the [**Claret and Hugh**](https://www.claretandhugh.info/category/news/) forum to voice their-erm- ‘lively’ opinions, there came the reassurance that wherever Calvert-Lewin ends up, it won’t be at West Ham: As reported in [Hammers News](https://www.hammers.news/) the West Ham source maintained the club stance would be no different now that Calvert-Lewin was a free agent: “_No change, not interested”._

The comments on the **C and H** forum show pretty clearly that fans want West Ham to show more ambition:

_“Calvert Lewin is not good enough to lace the boots of Danny Ings.”_

_“Just what we need. An ageing, injury prone striker with a below average scoring record. He’d be such a typical West Ham signing.”_

_“We don’t want Calvert-Lewin he’s not good enough for Everton so why should he be good enough for west ham! If we go down this road of injury prone strikers in their later years on huge wages we will be relegated!!!”_

..Would be a pretty fair representation of Claret and Hugh comments. Clearly readers want the club to show more ambition: Finding a Premier-League ready striker- without an injury-prone past is going to take a decent budget which West Ham claim they do not have at present. Once circle that will take some ‘squaring’.
