Man United to receive immediate£42m PSR boost that will help finalise Bryan Mbeumo deal

Manchester United are looking to wrap up a deal for Bryan Mbeumo after weeks of negotiating with Brentford.

Despite submitting two official bids for Bryan Mbeumo, Manchester United are yet to propose an offer that satisfies Brentford’s asking price.

United’s second Mbeumo bid was worth £62.5 million, broken down into £55 million guaranteed and £7.5 million in add-ons. However, Brentford shifted the goalposts.

Brentford changed their asking price for Mbeumo, now insisting the 25-year-old is worth more than Matheus Cunha following his £62.5 million move from Wolves.

United remain confident about landing Mbeumo, and doing business in July should suit the Red Devils.

The Premier League Profit and Sustainability Rules are becoming an increasingly important part of modern transfer windows.

The regulations state that Premier League clubs cannot make a loss exceeding £105 million over a rolling three-year period. The financial periods end after June 30th, meaning July 1 will mark the start of the 2025/26 PSR year.

United made a loss of £42.1m in 2022/23, but those losses will now be wiped from the equation, giving the club more financial flexibility in the transfer window.

A £60m-plus deal for Mbeumo will hit United’s PSR, but reports suggest the club is in a fairly healthy financial position despite missing out on Champions League football.

Unfortunately, United’s £113m losses in the 2023/24 season will still put the club under financial scrutiny.

Finance expert Kieran Maguire claims United can still spend £100m this summer without coming close to breaching financial regulations.

Bryan Mbeumo deal should be done ready for pre-season

With huge pressure on Ruben Amorim to hit the ground running in 2025/26, the Portuguese head coach understandably wants his signings to arrive early this summer to integrate into the squad.

Cunha was signed on the first day of the window, and now confidence is growing that Mbeumo can be finalised before pre-season training begins on July 7.

It will give Mbeumo plenty of time to settle in Manchester before joining the squad for a pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Sweden and the tour of the United States.

But Ineos will still be busy over the summer with Amorim wanting four more signings after Mbeumo. There is also the task of trimming the squad with several players currently up for sale.

Now that every club has entered a new PSR period, hopefully buying and selling will prove to be an easier task.
