Leeds United miss out on cut-price deal for ‘monster’ striker - Fabrizio Romano

Another striker will surely be arriving at Elland Road this summer after Leeds United have already signed Lukas Nmecha.

Although Nmecha looks to be a solid free transfer, this won’t be the striker that can keep Leeds in the Premier League next season.

Daniel Farke will be seeking a slight upgrade on Joel Piroe, as it’s been made very clear that another striker will arrive at Leeds.

Who this is will be is another question, but there has been plenty of talk of Dominic Calvert-Lewin arriving at Leeds.

After Calvert-Lewin confirmed his Everton exit, this deal could have legs, but another target’s chances of joining has been put to bed.

Tammy Abraham won’t be joining Leeds United this summer

An ambitious target who has been linked is AC Milan’s Tammy Abraham.

Abraham was known for his success at Chelsea in the top flight, and his possible arrival to Yorkshire would be game-changing.

It was said that all it would take is a £21m fee for Abraham in what seemed like a deal that was a no-brainer for the 49ers to pursue further.

However, the roadblock in the move was Abraham’s £97k-a-week wage, which was never going to happen in the Whites eyes, and now they won’t get the chance to this window.

Fabrizio Romano, who said Leeds were interested in Abraham, has reported that Besiktas have agreed a £17m deal for the striker, which might come as a surprise to Leeds, who expected the fee to be £21m as stated.

The owners have missed out on a cut-price deal for a striker with Premier League experience, and this could come back to bite them.

Abraham-type striker is exactly what Leeds need to succeed

The idea in signing Abraham was the right one, as Farke will need a forward with Premier League experience he can rely on in the big moments.

This is something Piroe struggled with at times even in the Championship, which will raise concern for his prospects in the top flight.

Of course, Leeds already have a Premier League-proven number nine in Patrick Bamford, but his unreliability will be too much of a risk for Leeds.

Bamford’s future is in his own hands, but with Leeds likely to sign another striker it would be a struggle.

If they do sign the striker they’d hoped for, Abraham’s build of strength and speed would be exactly what the Whites need in a relegation battle, and by adding in his pivotal experience, Farke can have a recipe of success if he looks for someone similar.
