Hornets free agency preview and discussion

**What:** NBA Free Agency

**When:** 6:00pm Eastern (officially)

The NBA offseason hits fast and furious after the NBA Finals. We just had the 2025 NBA Draft a less than a week ago. Before the ink is dry on those selections, we pivot to free agency. The Hornets have already been active and there are a few things to iron out.

* Tre Mann (restricted)

* Seth Curry

* Taj Gibson

* Wendell Moore

Josh Okogie and DaQuan Jeffries are both on non-guaranteed contracts for next season, so their places on the roster aren’t set in stone. I’d also be surprised if Vasilije Micic, who is coming back in the Mark Williams trade, doesn’t agree to some sort of contract buyout.

I’d like to see Tre Mann back, and Jeff Peterson has made it sound like that’s the plan. He and and Collin Sexton could make for a dynamite guard duo off the bench. The team also needs a center of some kind with Moussa Diabate, Ryan Kalkbrenner, and a healing Grant Williams the only players on the roster that can man that spot. I don’t expect a huge splash given the dearth of bigs on the market and the Hornets cap situation.

The Hornets are going to be operating over the cap, so they’ll be reliant on exceptions and trades to make any tweaks to the roster. The midlevel exception worth about $14 million. They can use that to sign a player or players, or use it as space to absorb salary in a trade.

The rest of the league has undergone a makeover between the end of the NBA Finals and the start of free agency, and that is surely going to have an affect on how the next few days unfold.

* The Grizzlies traded Desmond Bane to the Magic for a couple of players and four 1st round picks

* The Suns traded Kevin Durant to the Rockets for Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, and picks

* The Celtics have begun dismantling their team to cut costs

* They sent Jrue Holiday to the Blazers for Anfernee Simons

* They sent Kristaps Porzinigis to the Hawks for Georges Niang

* They’re reportedly looking at flipping one or both of the new players

* The Bulls traded Lonzo Ball to the Cavaliers for Isaac Okoro

* The Pelicans traded CJ McCollum and Kelly Olynyk for Jordan Poole and Saddiq Bey

More news is going to trickle out over the course of the day, and I expect we’ll see a good bit of things unfold into the evening once reporters are cleared to talk about deals at 6:00.
