Gyokeres threatens Sporting strike to force transfer

Viktor Gyokeres has informed Sporting Lisbon that he has no intention of returning to the club this summer.

Gyokeres wants to leave Sporting amid interest from leading European clubs and has become frustrated with the demands of the Portuguese champions.

🚨 There was an agreement between Arsenal and Viktor Gyokeres that a fee of around €60m would be enough for a deal to take place.

However, Sporting are still sticking to their €80m valuation. Arsenal are NOT willing to pay that amount.

The Swedish striker believed he had a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ with Sporting to leave for a fee of €70m this summer. However, Sporting president Frederico Varandas has insisted Sporting will not let Gyokeres leave for that fee.

The situation has led to a stand-off with Fabrizio Romano reporting that Gyokeres has told the Portuguese champions he will not return for pre-season training.

He wants to arrangement honoured, though Sporting are keen to recoup a transfer fee closer to €85m (£72.7m).

Arsenal and Manchester United have each expressed interest in the 27-year-old but neither are prepared to meet the current demands. There is also rival interest in Gyokeres from Italy and the Saudi Pro League.

Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 games since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. He has helped the Portuguese side to consecutive Primeira Liga titles, ending successive campaigns as the league’s leading scorer.
