Man Utd 'in talks with Ivan Toney' as Red Devils consider cut-price transfer

Manchester United are reportedly in talks to bring Ivan Toney back to the Premier League, less than a year after the striker left Brentford to move to the Saudi Pro League. Toney was recalled to the England squad in May and came off the bench to win his seventh cap during the Three Lions’ friendly with Senegal.

United have already completed the signings of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon this summer and are expected to land Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford ahead of the new campaign. The Red Devils endured another difficult season last time around after Ruben Amorim succeeded Erik ten Hag in the Old Trafford dugout in November as the team finished 15th in the Premier League after losing to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

Toney joined Al-Ahli in a £40million transfer last September after penning a £400,000-a-week contract in the Middle East.

And the 29-year-old bagged 30 goals in 44 matches during his maiden campaign with the club, with only Cristiano Ronaldo netting more league goals than the Englishman throughout the season.

Toney is contracted to Al-Ahli until 2028 and may be looking to assert his authority in the Middle East for years to come yet. But, according to Weekend Sports, United have contacted Toney’s representatives to probe the player’s position on a transfer back to England.

The 13-time Premier League champions are said to be mulling over an offer of around £30m in an attempt to prise the striker away from his current club.

Toney bagged 36 Premier League goals during three seasons in the top-flight with Brentford after helping the club win promotion from the Championship in 2021.

And after departing the Bees, he penned an emotional message on Instagram as he gushed: “Where do I even begin.

“It’s hard to find the right words to express what Brentford FC means to me. From the moment I first stepped onto the pitch wearing the shirt, I knew I was part of something special.

“My first and most important shout out is to 'The Bees' simply the best and most incredible fans in the world.

“Together, we’ve shared unforgettable moments - highs, lows, challenges, and triumphs that will stay with me forever. The love and support you’ve shown me through thick and thin is something I will remember for the rest of my life.”

He added: “To my team-mates, the manager, the backroom staff, the owners, and again, a special mention to The Bees - thank you.

“There’s no need for onion chopping, because as I always say - see you soon, it’s never a goodbye.”
