Liverpool could be set for a period of dominance like what Manchester United had in the 1990s after winning the Premier League title and snapping up Florian Wirtz for a fee that could become a British transfer record.
That is the view of Teddy Sheringham, who was a part of the Old Trafford side's sustained period of success, playing for United between 1997 and 2001. "He's coming to a top team, playing at the top or near the top of their game," Sheringham said. "They won the league at a canter last year.
"I fully expect them to be right back up there again next year, and Wirtz just enhances their whole situation. He’ll have a solid situation playing behind him with the back four and the goalkeeper.
"There are strong midfielders alongside him from day one. He’s got players up front like Mohamed Salah, who’ll turn his service into goals."
Wirtz scored 16 goals and assisted another 15 for Bayer Leverkusen last season. And with Salah and co alongside him at Anfield, those numbers could get even better.
"He'll fit right in there, and I think he can help Liverpool start a dynasty in England the same way United did in the 1990s and 2000s, and the same way City did over the last decade or so," Sheringham, speaking to Racing Tipster, continued.

"I think they’ve learned from being on top in the 70s and 80s, then losing that stature. Now, they’re ready to get it back and I think they have all the tools."
In addition to Wirtz, Arne Slot has also brought in Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. And Milos Kerkez, the Hungary left-back, was confirmed as coming in from Bournemouth earlier this week.
"This is a club that wants to win, needs to win," Kerkez told the official club site upon his arrival. "Of course it's a big thing last season, completely dominated everyone I think, and of course big congratulations.
"But always, you know, you need to want more and definitely from last season I think this season the club is going to build on it and only get a lot better."

Kerkez will link up with Dominik Szoboszlai, his international teammate, at Anfield, and he was also asked what the Liverpool number eight had told him about the club.
"Just that when you come here, it's the top of football," Kerkez explained. "You're going to see the people and everyone around the club – from, I don't know, food and training and from the kitchen and everything that's professional, the physios – that you're going to feel a completely different level, the highest level in football. And obviously that I should come. So, now here I am."
Liverpool.com says: Winning consistently is difficult because there are so many good teams now, but Liverpool is well set up for a period of success under Slot. The first league title has been secured and the team will head into the new campaign in a stronger position after a good transfer window.
